SIMULATION ENGINEER

We are now looking for a Simulation Engineer to join our team!

Role Purpose:

To design and analyse components and systems for relevant projects across racing and non-racing projects. In addition, to build and evolve engine system simulations to test hardware designs against key performance targets, along with the continuous improvement of modelling processes and methods

General Responsibilities & Tasks

- Carry out Thermodynamic simulations of engine systems, experience with GT-Suite is preferred - Build and calibrate 1D engine models to carry out investigations on performance sensitivities of hardware design parameters - Perform machine learning & optimization for simulation-based engine development - Undertake co-simulation simulations approach where appropriate, (e.g., GT-Power/Converge, GT-Power/Python UDF) - Manipulate CAD models and extract geometry required for simulation activities - Apply project management techniques to each allocated activity, taking project ownership from concept to power unit testing and provide support through to production - Report and present findings to peer group review and support with Customer / Supplier liaison - Drive continuous improvement activities - Analyse errors, identify trends and contribute to developing innovative solutions - Overlap with other departments where necessary offering support - Attend various meetings and action/communicate where required - Produce written reports and make presentations where required

Skills & Attributes

- Develops and applies advanced technologies, engineering principles, theories and concepts, particularly fluid mechanics and thermodynamics - Knowledge of engine performance and combustion modes in gasoline direct injection engines - Good understanding of performance systems like Valvetrain, Inlet/Exhaust and Combustion Chamber design - Knowledge about Turbocharger matching and mean-line modelling - An ability to work with Python coding may be an advantage - Understanding of engine testing and data collection practises - Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills - Structured approach to work with the ability and flexibility to meet tight deadlines - The ability to generate new approaches and innovate ideas - A genuine desire and determination to deliver commitments - Good communication skills in verbal and written formats

Qualifications & Experience

- Degree in Mechanical / Aeronautical / Automotive Engineering; A Ph.D. may be an advantage - Experience with GT Power or similar 1D engine simulation tools, including advanced features (FRMs, Optimization and Coupled models) - Strong understanding of IC engines, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer and energy management. - Experience with high-performance racing engine and/or involvement in advanced R&D projects - Python experience would be beneficial - Practical knowledge of engine testing, development or calibration is advantageous
