Nitron Racing is a specialist engineering and manufacturing business designing and producing high-performance components where precision, functionality and quality are critical.

We are looking for an experienced SolidWorks Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team. This is a hands-on, broad-ranging role for an engineer with strong SolidWorks skills, sound mechanical engineering knowledge and the ability to take designs from concept through to production.

The Role

You will develop mechanical designs, assemblies and detailed manufacturing drawings, working closely with our engineering, CNC machining and assembly teams.

A key focus will be complex 3D modelling and surfacing, including smooth compound curves and geometry beyond straightforward flat-edged components. Strong SolidWorks surfacing and advanced modelling skills are therefore essential.

You will also produce accurate, fully toleranced, production-ready drawings with a strong understanding of GD&T, while working alongside vehicle application engineers to develop new products from concept through to prototype and production.

The role will suit an engineer who enjoys solving complex design challenges and creating practical, manufacturable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

- Produce detailed 3D mechanical designs and assemblies using SolidWorks, including complex surfaces, compound curves and advanced 3D geometry. - Create accurate, fully toleranced manufacturing drawings using GD&T and appropriate drawing standards. - Design components for CNC machining and production, considering materials, finishes, tolerances and manufacturing processes. - Work closely with CNC machining, assembly and vehicle application teams to develop and optimise products from concept through to prototype and production. - Identify and resolve design challenges to ensure products meet functional, dimensional and performance requirements. - Maintain accurate CAD files, engineering documentation and Bills of Materials (BOMs) within the company's MRP/PDM systems. - Support prototype development using 3D scanning and 3D printing where appropriate. - Contribute to product improvements and wider engineering development projects.

Essential Skills & Experience

- Minimum 5 years' professional mechanical design engineering experience. - Strong, demonstrable SolidWorks expertise, including advanced modelling and surfacing. - Proven experience designing complex geometry, surfaces and compound curves. - Experience using PDM / product data management systems. - Strong understanding and practical application of GD&T / geometric tolerancing. - Good knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, CNC machining and Design for Manufacture. - Understanding of engineering materials, finishes and manufacturing processes. - Proven ability to take ownership of design projects and deliver production-ready solutions. - Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail and engineering judgement. - Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering and production environment.

Desirable Experience

- HNC, HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. - Experience using FEA to assess and optimise components. - Experience with prototype development and product testing. - Familiarity with MRP systems and BOM management. - Experience using 3D scanning and 3D printing. - Experience with demanding or performance-critical applications. - An interest in motorsport or high-performance automotive engineering. - Knowledge or experience of suspension or shock absorber design.
